Kajiado East constituency is a cosmopolitan area in Kajiado County. It lies within the Nairobi metropolis and boarders machakos and Makueni counties in the North East and East position respectively and its approximately 20Km from Nairobi city centre.
The constituency was born from two mother constituencies (Kajiado North and Kajiado central constituencies) after the new allocation of boundaries and took over all the CDF projects that lied within their boundaries. There are 6 divisions, 20 locations and 38 sub- locations in the newly created Isinya and Mashuuru sub counties. The constituency stretches from Oloosirkon near Ongata Rongai to Masimba next to Tsavo game reserve
The constituency receives an annual rainfall of 600mm and therefore classified as a semi arid with long rains experienced in April and May and short showers in September and October. Its topography is wind beaten flat plains commonly referred to as Kaputiei plains with dwarf acacia species as the characteristic and dominant vegetation besides seasonal grass and shrub. The constituency main inhabitants is the Maasai community who are pastoralists by tradition, but also include other ethnic groups e.g kikuyu, Kamba, Luhya, kisii etc. The constituency by 2009 National population census was 141,254.
The main economic activity for constituents is largely livestock and agricultural related businesses. Demographic features are dynamic especially in ethnic ratios, density and lifestyle parameters due to current trend in land tenure system. Large tracts of land which were livestock / wildlife grazing/dispersal/ carving zones and registered in individual proprietorship of members of dissolved group ranches are now being sub-divided into plots for sale to willing buyers who are putting up residential houses and real estate developments.
